The road goes on...
We wanted to find the exact right name for our family site. The intention was to keep it simple, yet meaningful. After tossing around lots of ideas, The Road Goes On was offered and made it through all our final cuts. But what does it mean to us? It signifies that this is not where we started. We have a history, from birth up through every current moment, that defines and affects us. And while we love every stage we have passed, we know that our time in Peru, or as a family of three will pass and we will continue to our next phase. We didn’t want the name to be so specific that it wouldn’t apply when inevitable change takes place. We also wanted to convey our belief that this life that we will report is not solely our doing. We fully believe that we are an active part of God’s plan and His story, and though He may allow us freedom to decide, He ultimately sets a path before us. We have no idea what all is ahead, but we can confidently approach our life and any uncertainty in the knowledge that we are following Him as best we can.
The words come from a poem/song by JRR Tolkien (surprise, surprise!) in the Lord of the Rings:
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
Let others follow it who can!
Let them a journey new begin,
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.
So, as we continue down the road, we are glad to have you come alongside us, to join us - if just for this moment - in realizing how special any family’s life can be when it is given over to a faith and purpose.
